Natural Resources
Our natural water aquafer has ample capacity for industrial growth.
Jefferson County is rich in natural resources. Abundant forest, ponds and rivers attract a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. We have plenty of water to meet both industrial and recreational needs.
Some of our largest employers are the timber industry and growers of cotton, soybeans, corn, and livestock. Four 2nd generation lumber companies employ hundreds here.
Aquaculture in Jefferson County centers on catfish production which has merited a place on many diversified farms since the 1990s. Jefferson County is the leading county in the state in the amount of revenue generated from catfish production.
Jefferson County also profits from mining and processing Kaolin or “white gold.”
